Sunday 9 May was an exciting day for the Boathouse Church, Putney, and Roehampton Student Church (RSC); as we celebrated our first joint service together after merging to become one church family.
In the five years since RSC was planted to share the good news about Jesus with students at Roehampton University, God has been very good. He’s used them to reach students, with some coming to faith through their ministry; others growing in their faith during their time as a student and at RSC, and others still staying on after graduating to help grow the church. However, one thing the church hasn’t been able to do is to become financially sustainable, which is always a challenge with student ministry. So, when RSC’s planter started some continuing full-time theological training, the elders at The Boathouse Church were asked about ways the two churches could partner together.
Following these conversations, our two churches decided to merge with the aspiration of replanting a church to reach all of Roehampton. This was something RSC had been keen to do at some point in the future. In the meantime, we’re enjoying getting to know one another as one church family; praying that we’d be able to do more together than we could on our own; encouraging one another to keep trusting Jesus day by day, and looking to share the gospel with those in our communities. We’d love you to pray for us. And if you’re looking for a church in the Putney / Roehampton / Barnes area, you’d be really welcome to join us one Sunday!
