On the bright sunny morning of 28 January, something wonderful happened! Over 500 women from across the Co-Mission network willingly got up early on a Saturday, some travelling an hour and a half from east and north London, to arrive in Raynes Park before 10 a.m. Why would they do this? Was Ed Sheeran or Michael Bublé performing in concert? No. These ladies – of various ages and stages of life – were all willing to make that journey for the Co-Mission Women’s Day. This is an event that the Co-Mission network has been running annually for over 10 years, with the purpose of encouraging, equipping and bringing together women from across our churches as they seek to live for Christ in London.
This year our speaker was Carolyn Lacey from Woodgreen Evangelical Church, and the topic was ‘Real Rest’. The number of attendees willing to give up any opportunity of a morning lie-in shows that instinctively we know that real rest isn’t found in more sleep. But where is it found in the busyness of city life? Adverts and social media assure us we’ll achieve it through our next holiday, relationship or energy-saving purchase, yet those things always leave us wanting more than what they provide. Speaking from the letter to the Hebrews, Carolyn showed us how real rest is found in no one and nowhere else but Christ. His finished work of atonement means that we can really rest – rest from trying to be good enough for God; rest from trying to pretend we’re better than we are; rest from trying to live the Christian life in our own strength.
We live in a culture that tells us to work hard to get what we want, but the calling of the Christian is to daily depend on the work that Christ has already done for us. As we do this, we’ll be able to freely live for and serve Him, confident in His daily provision and help as we await our final and eternal rest with Him.

Prayer Points: Pray that these women would continue to be encouraged in the gospel's truth and actively find real rest in Jesus in a sometimes busy and unrelenting city.
